Surry Community offering free workshops to assist unemployed and underemployed


DOBSON — Surry Community College will be offering the following free workshops for unemployed and underemployed workers. No advanced registration is required.

Your Personality and Job Preferences will be held on Dec. 1 and 8. Students will complete the Myers Briggs Type Personality Profile and identify their personality types to find out which career or job best suits them. The class is offered at no cost to unemployed or underemployed workers. Advanced registration is not required. The Dec. 1 class will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Goodwill Career Connections, 1457 N. Bridge St., Elkin. The Dec. 8 class will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Surry County Workforce Center (Employment Office), 541 W. Pine St., Mount Airy.

Moving Forward-Career Information will be offered on Dec. 1 from 1 to 4 p.m. During this class, students will take the CAREER KEY and unlock the mystery to identifying jobs most likely to satisfy them. Students will learn how to identify sources of career information and help will be provided on identifying training needs and locations. Information about the Career Readiness Certification will also be given. The class is free and will be held at the Surry County Workforce Center (Employment Office), 541 W. Pine St., Mount Airy.

Work Ethics and Job Employer Expectations will be held on Dec. 3 from 10 a.m. to noon. Students will learn what is expected in today’s workplace to be successful on the job to be promotable. The class will be held at the Goodwill Career Connections, 1457 N. Bridge St., Elkin.
