Elkin man charged in stabbing case

An Elkin man has been charged following an incident in which he allegedly stabbed his uncle.

Brandon Lee Overbay, 30, of PGW Drive, Elkin, was charged on Feb. 10 with felony aggravated assault/assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill or inflict serious injury as well as misdemeanor assault on a female.

Elkin and Jonesville officers as well as a Surry County deputy responded to the apartment at PGW Drive where the victim was located, according to a police report filed by arresting officer J.D. Brooks.

When they arrived on the scene, they were led to Lawrence Overbay who was bleeding from his head from an apparent stab wound. Officers were informed by family members that Brandon Overbay had used a pair of scissors to stab the uncle, Lawrence, and he reportedly had pushed Mary Overbay to the ground, according to the report.

Once paramedics arrived, officers went to another apartment in search of Brandon, and he was located. According to the report, the incident occurred in Brandon’s apartment.

The senior Overbay was transported to Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Overbay was given a $100,000 secured bond, with a first court date of Feb. 22.
