WILKESBORO — A Wilkesboro man was charged Saturday with the early morning murder of his brother, following a domestic dispute, reported officials with the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office.
On Saturday, shortly after 4 a.m., the Wilkes County Communications Center received a 911 call from a man, later identified as Bryan Keith Hendren, 59, of 1285 Mt. Sinai Road, stating that his brother, Barney M. “Benny” Hendren, 63, of 1219 Mt. Sinai Road, was on his way to Bryan’s home, and he was going to kill his brother.
Bryan Hendren stated during the 911 call, according to officials, that he would be awaiting deputies and would be cooperative when they arrived.
Deputies with the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Bryan Hendren’s home and arrived 10 to 12 minutes later to find the victim, Barney Hendren, deceased and lying in the driveway of the home. The victim appeared to have suffered a single shotgun wound to the chest area.
Bryan Hendren was sitting on his porch awaiting the deputies. According to a release from the sheriff’s office, the incident appeared to have been caused by a domestic dispute between the brothers over land that the two had inherited.
Bryan Keith Hendren was cooperative with deputies and is in the Wilkes County Jail under a $250,000 bond after being charged with one count of murder. The Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the crime scene by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
