Man charged with church break-in

JONESVILLE — A Smithfield man was arrested last Thursday on charges relating to a break in at an area church. On July 15, a Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office deputy was dispatched to Good Shepherd Outreach in Jonesville regarding a breaking and entering crime that had occurred. The pastor of the church reported that the church had been broken into and several items taken.

In a separate incident the same day, another deputy had assisted in investigating a breaking and entering in Yadkinville and remembered seeing some of the reported stolen items from the church.

With assistance from the Yadkinville Police Department, David Stevens Collins, 65, was arrested on July 16 and charged with one felony count of breaking and entering a place of worship and one felony count of larceny after breaking and entering. He was given a secured $7,500 bond with a court date of July 16. All stolen items were returned to the church.
