There will be Port-A-Pit BBQ chicken under the shelter at Thurmond Grocery on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m. Plates are $8.50 and include half a chicken, baked beans, slaw, roll and dessert. Chicken halves are $6.


Mason Wagoner and his family and friends from Sparta will be singing bluegrass gospel music at 11 a.m. at Little Stone Mountain Baptist Church for its Fifth Sunday Singing.


The ladies at Little Stone Mountain Baptist Church will be serving hamburgers and hot dogs to fishermen and all that come by on April 5, beginning at 11:30 a.m.


Books ready to check out at Traphill Branch Library include “Mighty Movers,” “Gingerbread House,” “Nature,” “Manny’s Toolbox” by Marcy Kelman, “Bob the Builder Go, Spud, Go” by Linda Estrella, “At Rick” by Stella Rimington and “The Diamond in Your Pocket” by Gangaji.


New audio books on CD at Traphill Branch Library include “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” and “The Girl who Played with Fire” both by Stieg Larsson.


Sonda Harris is going on a mission to Haiti and a fundraiser is planned. You can buy tickets for BBQ chicken plates at Traphill Grocery and the plates can be picked up there or at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church on April 12. They also have tickets for a star quilt raffle that can be purchased there to help fund this mission trip.


The youth group at Roaring Gap Baptist Church is offering to do odd jobs this summer to help fund a trip. They can clean gutters, do lawn work, and many other odd jobs. Three of the youth are firefighters and know how to handle a ladder. Please call Sasha at 957-0695 to find out more information and to schedule work times.


Arlo and Doris Holbrook Anderson of North Dakota have been visiting family and friends for the last week. They have traveled a good portion of the United States in the last few months from North Dakota to Oklahoma to Arizona and California to Florida and North Carolina. They’re watching the weather to see when will be a good time to return home to North Dakota.


Congratulations to Carrie and Webb Sockwell of Gibsonville on the birth of a daughter, Adalynn Jane Sockwell, born on March 22. Maternal grandparents are Susan S. Reinhimer of Elon and Steve Reinhimer of Virginia. Paternal grandparents are Lee and Marlina Sockwell of Gibsonville. Maternal great grandparents are Kelly and Bonnie Sidden of Traphill, and great-grandmother is Carrie Hawkins of Traphill.


Condolences go to the family of J.D. Steelman, who passed away last week.
