Wake Forest Baptist Health Home Care Home Specialist Laura Hubbard is spearheading a community health fair in conjunction with the Elkin Senior Alliance that is scheduled on April 11.

It will be the first of its kind for the Elkin area, said Hubbard.

The fair will be designed to meet the need for health care information though is not limited to seniors — anyone can come, said Hubbard.

“A lot of people do not realize what they have in their community at their fingertips,” said Hubbard.

Hubbard explained that knowledge is key when it comes to finding out what is available in the way of senior health care. So far there are 25 different vendors signed up to participate in the fair and Hubbard said she are looking for more.

The Senior Alliance is a group that provides services to seniors and are businesses that come together, network and do presentations for different groups for the purpose of sharing information. A senior is typically considered over the age of 65, said Hubbard.

In addition to Wake Forest Baptist Care at Home, other representatives in the Senior Alliance are Hugh Chatham Hospital, Parkwood Place Retirement Living Community, Bayada Home and Senior Care, YVEDDI, Mountain Valley Hospice, Victorian Senior Care for Assisted Living, Partners Behavioral Health Care, Surry Senior Services Liberty Home Care, Yadkin Valley Home Health. These are the most active on regular basis. It is open to anyone who provides service, said Hubbard.
