The Jonesville Historical Society will host a July 5 Freedom Float, Karaoke and Water Slide for the third year in a row and are asking for volunteers to help with activities in Lila Swaim Park afterwards.
Chair of the Jonesville Historical Society Judy Wolfe said, “We wanted to do something to promote the heritage of the Yadkin River for local families, especially children.”
She called it an event that honors family.
The Freedom Float leaves Ronda Community Park on the river at 9 a.m. and arrives in Elkin at about 11:30 a.m.
The route is scenic between Ronda and Elkin and is an easy one for beginners, said Wolfe.
Participants may bring their own canoe/kayak or rent a canoe (three adults with vests for $45) or kayak (one person for $30). However, participants must provide water vests for children, said Wolfe.
Upon the Freedom Float completion, the Jonesville Historical Society will transport participants back to Ronda to get their cars.
Following, there will be events at Lila Swaim Park held from noon to 4 p.m. Free karaoke will be directed by Pat and Trent Benton. There also will be yard sales and water slides for the kids.
The Hot Dog Boy and Newman’s Snow Cones will provide food for the park event.
Wolfe said when the festivities are complete at Lila Swaim Park, those looking for more fun and celebration will find fireworks displays featured in Elkin and Roaring River.
