Elkin High School 2010 graduate Brett Pardue will give a special concert on Sunday, Aug. 4 at 4 p.m. at the Foothills Arts Council, located at 129 Church St.
Pardue is a vocal performance major at Mars Hill College with minors in piano and English.
The performance is free, but there will be limited seating. Tonya Smith, choral and band director at Elkin High, will accompany Pardue on the piano.
The program is entitled “A World of Song” and will explore the vast genre of music.
“Each new piece brings with it a new world of emotion - like these feelings rush into me for the first time the minute my hands or my voice realize the music on the page,” Pardue said. “There is no other experience like it, and there are no words to describe it. The singularity of that feeling is what has driven my interest in singing since I began seriously studying it as a teenager.”
The audience can expect selections spanning Russian and French songs, Italian melodies, American Broadway (from Leonard Bernstein to Andrew Lloyd Webber) and Golden Era pop music.
Those interested in attending are encouraged to arrive at 3:30 on Sunday, Aug. 4 for seating. The performance will begin at 4 p.m.
