Hugh Chatham awarded

Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital has been named the number one “best place to work” in the large employer category (250+ employees) by the Triad Business Journal. The hospital placed ahead of two other finalists, Inmar and Furnitureland South.

Hugh Chatham was selected for this recognition based on information it had submitted about the workplace environment, benefits and culture, along with responses from more than 190 employees to a survey asking about items such as team effectiveness, trust in senior leaders, feeling valued, manger effectiveness, and compensation and benefits.

Words that Hugh Chatham employees used to describe Hugh Chatham as a place to work (submitted as part of the nomination) included: family, nurturing, patient-oriented, compassionate and friendly.

Employees said a sign of the hospital’s attractiveness as an employer is that many people drive long distances to come to work here. They also noted that its career ladders, continuing education programs for clinical staff, and the recent Jane B. Eidson Memorial Nursing Scholarship are examples of how Hugh Chatham supports individuals’ ongoing professional development.

Hugh Chatham has received several prestigious awards this year, including the Get With the Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus Award, 2015 Most Wired Hospitals Award, and the Women’s Choice Award for America’s Top 100 Hospitals for Patient Experience (received for a third consecutive year).

This Triad “Best Places to Work” recognition is notable and humbling in that it reflects exactly who the hospital is as an organization — a place that’s different, in a special way.

Everyone at Hugh Chatham shares in this award, including its employees, medical staff, volunteers, auxiliary members, and trustees.
