DOBSON — Surry Community College’s Small Business Center will be holding free seminars and workshops in May at various locations in Surry and Yadkin counties.

Marketing Your Business will be the topic of a seminar on May 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Yadkin Center, 1001 College Drive, Yadkinville. Marketing for the 21st Century small business is more dynamic and challenging than ever. Discover the most effective and efficient ways to use the many marketing tools available, and gain insight into understanding and reaching your target audience. Those in attendance will also learn how to analyze an industry or business environment, and how to differentiate between branding, advertising, and grassroots marketing techniques. This comprehensive seminar will explore all the components required of an effective marketing plan.

Grant Writing 101 will be the subject of a workshop on May 9 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Center for Public Safety, 1220 State St., Mount Airy. As funding becomes more difficult to secure, nonprofit organizations face significant challenges to fulfill their missions. This three-hour seminar reviews the questions nonprofits need to answer prior to searching and applying for grant funds, outlines the seven basic elements of most proposals, and shows participants how to match their needs to the funder’s priorities. Participants will focus on the major questions that need answering prior to completing a grant application and incorporating these answers into research and subsequently a competitive proposal.

The Greater Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the seminar held in Mount Airy. The Yadkin County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the seminar held in Yadkin County.
