DOBSON — The Yadkin Valley Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for the induction of incoming officers at its annual meeting. The chamber also will give away awards recognizing associates.

The annual meeting will be held on Thursday at the Shelton Badgett Center for Viticulture and Enology at Surry Community College.

“This is our annual meeting. Not only do we induct new officers at the meeting, but we also distribute awards to members of the chamber who have gone on and beyond,” said Myra Cook, president of the Yadkin Valley Chamber of Commerce. “We’ll be giving away member of the year, ambassador of the year. We have seven awards in total such as the beautification award and others.”

Cook said the chamber tries to move its annual event throughout the Yadkin Valley. In 2013, the venue was held in The Liberty in downtown Elkin. Shifting to Dobson was a natural process.

“We don’t give any one area all the business. We move the annual meeting around recognizing all the areas that help make a difference to the chamber,” said Cook.

The annual meeting features a black and white theme and kicks off with a reception starting at 5:30 p.m. honoring outgoing chairman, Jerry Stroud.

Cook said the incoming chairman is Steve Owings. Owings and other officers will be inducted at 6:30 p.m.

For businesses interested in attending the ceremony, Cook said they should contact the chamber at 336-526-1111. The cost is $40 per person.

Cook said she’s excited about participating in her second annual meeting as president of the chamber.

The chamber pivots after the annual meeting into gearing up for the Pumpkin Festival to be held Sept. 28 in downtown Elkin.
