YADKINVILLE — Investigators and firefighters were on the scene of a fatal trailer fire Tuesday in the Courtney community of Yadkin County.

According to the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office, two people were found dead in a mobile home fire, reported at approximately 5:30 a.m. on 5 Star Trail.

The home and road are just off Chinquapin Road, near Highway 601 below Yadkinville.

No cause for the fire has been released.

While other news agencies have released names believed to be those killed in Tuesday’s fire, the Yadkin Sheriff’s Office declined to offer any names until official word is given.

“We don’t have any positive identification of the…I know that Fox 8 has released the names they believe to be from talking to people in the community, but we haven’t positively identified them through the medical examiner’s office yet,” Detective Sgt. Mickey Boyles said.

Early reports have identified the dead as Irma Rangel, 40, and her 7-year-old son, Omar Rangel.

Officials have yet to list the fire as a homicide or an accident, but Boyles said the fire is being treated seriously no matter what the description.

“We treat all fires where there’s a fatality involved as a crime scene until we can rule out the cause of the fire and the manner of death,” Boyles said.

No other injuries were reported.

The fire left pieces of metal and the cinder block foundation, but little else.

A vehicle parked near the home was photographed with a missing driver’s door window and a plastic covering to the elements. No word was given whether the window was damaged by the fire or was missing prior to the incident.

The Sheriff’s Office closed off Chinquapin Road Tuesday morning to all but local traffic. The State Bureau of Investigation and the Yadkin County Fire Marshal’s Office are continuing to investigate the incident.
