HAMPTONVILLE — On Aug. 21, the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office arrested Melvin Dwayne Cummings, 48, of Jonesville, and charged him with one count of felony larceny, one count of felony obtaining property by false pretense, one count of felony possession of stolen property, one count of misdemeanor criminal injury to personal property, one count of misdemeanor altering/removing a serial number and one count of misdemeanor selling an altered serial number of a farm tractor.
On June 20, the sheriff’s office received a report from a resident in Hamptonville that his 2011 Kubota farm tractor had been stolen from his farm on Hwy. 21. After further investigation, detectives alleged that Cummings had stolen the tractor and sold it to a resident in Boonville. The tractor was located in Sparta and, with the cooperation of the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office, was recovered and subsequently returned to the owner.
Cummings received a $25,000 unsecured bond and a court date of Aug. 27.
