The Elkin Independence Day Celebration will take place on July 5, according to event organizers.
The change in date was due to a snafu in fireworks scheduling, but organizers say changing the date leads to better results.
“Originally, the Elkin Jaycees were unable to secure a company to set the fireworks off on July 4. The decision was then made to hold our Independence Celebration on Saturday, July 5,” said Levi Shore of the Elkin Jaycees.
According to Shore, this date change has been a boost allowing Elkin to secure more vendors and sponsors compared to years past.
“It’s primarily because we are not competing with other area events for the same people and companies. We also hope that this date will produce a good turn out since people can now go to more than one celebration during 4th of July weekend,” he said.
The celebration will take place at the Elkin Municipal Park.
According to Shore, a band named Fried Pies will be playing the festival.
“They are a local band that plays a mix of popular rock, pop, and country songs. They will be playing multiple sets from 5 to 9 p.m. We will have BBQ chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, cheese steaks, and a variety of snacks and ice cream. There will be bounce houses for the kids as well as glow and light up items available for purchase,” said Shore.
“Our fireworks are provided by Hale Artificer, Inc. They have been doing our fireworks for several years now. The Elkin Jaycees would like to thank all of our sponsors, especially our Founding Fathers Sponsors: Town of Elkin, Secure South, Allstar Rentals, Tri-County Orthopedics, and G&B Energy.”
If inclement weather occurs, a rain date for fireworks only is on July 6. No outside food or drinks are permitted into the park during the celebration, and pets are not permitted for this occasion.
