Stokes, Surry County farmers may qualify for federal disaster aid


RALEIGH — Senator Shirley Randleman announced that family farmers in Stokes and Surry County may be eligible for Federal Disaster Aid.

President Obama has declared a major disaster in the State of Virginia based on damages and losses caused by the severe winter storm that occurred from Jan. 22 to Jan. 23. In accordance with the Consolidated Farm and Rural Development Act, Stokes and Surry counties have been designated as contiguous counties to the disaster.

As a result, eligible family farmers may qualify for Farm Service Agency emergency loan assistance. The FSA County Offices have been notified, and applications may be received for physical and production losses through Nov. 7.
