DOBSON — Do you ever need something welded around your house or farm? Surry Community College will be offering an Agricultural GMAW (MIG) Welding class starting Jan. 23, geared towards farmers and homeowners. The class will be held on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon through March 19 in the S Building on the Dobson campus. No class will be held on March 12.
This class will focus on welding safety, electric and gas drive power sources. Studies will include filler metal selection and shielding gases used for the Gas Metal Arc Welding process. This class will help the farmer or homeowner learn basic welding and fabrication techniques that would apply to small agricultural equipment. Welding will be performed on mild steel in the Flat, Horizontal, and Vertical positions.
Advanced registration is required. Tuition is $127, but tuition assistance is available through the Surry Skill-UP Program for those who qualify. Call 336-386-3398 to register or for more information.
