South Bridge Street in Elkin closed for RR track repairs Wednesday morning

Staff Report

South Bridge Street is closed off this morning for repairs to the railroad crossing signal, which will require a crane be brought in.

The roof off a building on North Bridge Street in downtown Elkin was ripped off during a microburst straightline wind July 14, and debris damaged the northern most railroad crossing signal.

A major thoroughfare through downtown Elkin will be closed for a couple of hours this morning so that a crane can be brought in to make repairs to the signage on the street.

South Bridge Street from its intersection with Main Street to Standard Street has been closed off this morning and will remain so while the railroad signals which came down during a microburst a couple of months ago are reinstalled, with a crane being used to make the repairs.

Officers with the Elkin Police Department are requesting that through-traffic going from Elkin to Jonesville use I-77 as much as possible during the time the road is closed.
