The Child Evangelism Fellowship of North Carolina Inc. and the Greater Yadkin Valley Chapter are presenting the second annual Good News Music Festival on Sept. 10 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Elkin Municipal Park.
The show is being held to promote Child Evangelism throughout the area’s schools as well as promote gospel and Christianity.
“The event is raising awareness of the Good News Club which is supported in many of the schools here in the Tri-County area, including Elkin and Jonesville Elementary,” said Child Evangelism Fellowship board member Donna Hutchens. “We first had the music festival at the Elkin Family Church on a Sunday night. We had a pretty good attendance, but we didn’t have food last year and all that good stuff so we’re hoping for more people to show up next weekend.”
The festival will feature music from several local bands including Tim Hodges’ band Witness, The Booger Swamp Rhythm Section, Holy Obsession and The Elkin Valley Singers.
This is a free event, however, donations are being accepted to support the ministry. There also will be a barbecue meal and people can help themselves for seconds through donations. Donations also will be used to support the CEF Ministry.
Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for the show.
“We’re expecting to see the same thing as last year but on a bigger scale,” said Tim Hodges, founder and general director of Elkin Funeral Service. “We’re excited. We’ve been helping organize and promote the event this year.”
“My favorite part during last year’s music festival was seeing all of the groups interacting and coming together to put on a great show,” said Hutchens. “Everybody got into it. The groups were best friends at the end of the month. We’re hoping to continue expanding it in the future and are also looking into having a fundraising banquet in May of next year.”
