New teachers begin year


Elkin City Schools hosts new teacher orientation this week in the administrative offices. The school year will officially kick off Monday as all of the faculty and staff return to their schools, with convocation first thing Monday morning. This year’s new teachers include, from left, Marena Scott, prekindergarten through sixth grade music and chorus; Jordan Sowers, exceptional children; Cherie Cooke, foods in family and consumer science; Jacob Riley, high school social studies; and Greg Carpenter, 6-12 band.
