Community Calendar


Submission guidelines for calendar events: One-time events may be submitted for placement in the calendar at least two weeks prior to the date of the event. Information should include date, time, place, brief description and contact information, if necessary. Calendars are published as space permits and do not run in every issue of the paper. If a submission is not showing, it is due to the chronological order of the events. Events to be included are at our discretion, and information is subject to editing. • 8 p.m. July 29 to 8 a.m. July 30, Elkin Public Library tweens and teens summer reading program will hold a teen lock-in with games, crafts, food and a midnight trip to the movie theater. Cost is free, but admission is earned by reading and program participation. Pick up a Bingo sheet at the library.

• 9 a.m. to noon, Grace Clinic will host a sale of cooked Boston butts, each weighing about 8 to 10 pounds and able to service 15-plus people. Aug. 27

• 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Wilkes Art Gallery, 913 C St., North Wilkesboro, will host a soft pastel workshop taught by visiting artist Malia Bryngelson. This is an introductory workshop for those with little to no experience with soft pastels. Students will complete a small painting and all art materials will be provided. Students should bring reference photos, and some photos will be provided. There will be a half-hour lunch break, so students should pack a lunch. Cost is $470. Class is limited to 10 people. All proceeds benefit the library and its programs for children and adults. Items should be in good condition, with a wide variety and good prices. Rain date is Sept. 24-25.
