The ARK receives gift from Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation

The ARK has received $1,800 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation just in time to help feed local residents/guests. The ARK will use the gift to purchase much needed food items that we do not receive through foodbank or emergency food donations.

“We are grateful for this funding from Food Lion,” said Cynthia Cothren, director of The ARK. “We always appreciate the great support from our community as well as funding from foundations. These funds will be used to purchase items such as milk, coffee, creamer, fresh fruits, vegetables and specialty items we might need during the fall and winter months. When we have a lot of children at The ARK we really use quite a lot of milk. On occasion we might have the option of purchasing shelf stable milk, but we try to purchase milk for the children and those who eat cereal for breakfast.”

The ARK provides shelter for the homeless as well as other much needed services. Guests who stay at the ARK never have to pay for housing, food, utilities, toiletries or cleaning supplies. These funds are greatly appreciated by guests at The ARK, board members and staff.

Established in 2001, the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding the hungry in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $9 million in grants.
