KERNERSVILLE — Citizens in the Northwest Piedmont Rural Planning Organization (NWPRPO) area are encouraged to participate in implementing the Strategic Transportation Investments (STI) law. The STI law directs RPOs statewide to assign points to local highway and non-highway mode projects considered important to their area. These points, when combined with a data-driven score, are used in determining the final score for each project on the Regional and Division levels. Projects on the Statewide level are scored using data only.
For the next 30 days, the NWPRPO is asking citizens in Stokes, Surry, Yadkin and Davie counties to offer feedback on project rankings in the Regional category. A full listing of projects and their assigned points can be found by visiting http://www.ptrc.org/index.aspx?page=252. Also available for viewing is the method the NWPRPO developed to determine how to assign these points.
The public can provide comments by emailing the NWPRPO Coordinator at email@example.com or mailing written comments to: Elizabeth Jernigan, Piedmont Triad Regional Council 1398 Carrollton Crossing Drive, Kernersville, NC 27284.
When the 30-day public comment period ends, the NWPRPO Technical Coordinating Committee (TCC) members consisting of county and municipal staff and Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) members consisting of elected officials will carefully consider the input received and amend the project rankings and point assignments as necessary.
The Northwest Piedmont RPO works cooperatively with the NC Department of Transportation and local officials to enhance transportation planning opportunities for rural areas in Stokes, Surry, Yadkin and Davie counties.
