Doug Williams was injured Sept. 7 while taking down a deer stand and will not be able to return to work full-time until late 2016. • Members of the Yadkin Valley Rotary Club are now selling tickets for the annual New Year’s Day lunch at the First United Methodist Church, 340 Hawthorne Road, Elkin. The club will serve a traditional meal of country ham, collard greens, black-eyed peas, cornbread, coffee/tea and dessert. Serving hours are from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Quart bags of collard greens may be purchased for $5 per bag. Also, drawings for free door prizes will be held every half hour during serving hours. Must be present to win. Proceeds from the lunch will benefit the club’s scholarship program. Each year a scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior in each of the area high schools: East Wilkes, Starmount and Elkin. Recipients are chosen based on their leadership in the community. • Friendly Consignment Store, a not-for-profit consignment shop beside the Arlington Fire Department in Jonesville, provides new and gently-used items with proceeds donated to several local charities and groups. Hours are Monday and Wednesday noon to 5 p.m., Thursday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

• 6:30 to 8 p.m., 4G Club – Girls Growing in God’s Grace, is held each Thursday at the Fairfield Inn’s Conference Room in Elkin. It is a meeting for girls 13 to 25 to come together and bond.
