• Dewey’s Bakery items will be sold by the Forbush High School Marching Band’s Boosters at Collide Church, 234 E. Main St., Yadkinville, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 2 to 6 p.m. on Dec. 13 and Dec. 20. Items sold will include sugar cake, Moravian cookies, cheese straws, gift baskets and more.

• 10 a.m., Elkin Public Library, 111 N. Front St., Elkin, hosts its Book Babies program lasting 20 to 25 minutes each Thursday for children age birth to 24 months and their caregiver. They are free.

Dec. 3-4

• 7:30 p.m., Candlelight Christmas in Rockford will be held at the 1914 Rockford Methodist Church, Historic Village of Rockford. The 25th year of the Christmas tradition will be led by Dr. Gena Poovey, professor of music at Limestone College in Gaffney, South Carolina. It is sponsored by the Rockford Preservation Society Inc. Thursday will feature Poovey, accompanied by Adam Rudisill, Gene Anderson and Reel Shady, Ashley Godwin and Devin Matthews, Gaynell and Michael Lambert and the Surry Central High School chorus directed by Angie Smith. Friday will feature Poovey, accompanied by Dr. David P. Thompson, Ashley Godwin and Devin Matthews, Susie Cooper and Candel Firth, Marshall Brothers and High Road and Limestone College chorus directed by Poovey. Refreshments will be served following the programs. The 1850 Davenport Gallery will be open before and after the programs, and shuttle van service will be available beginning at 6:30 p.m. from the Rockford Baptist Church parking lot provided by YVEDDI.

Dec. 4

• 10 a.m. for 2- and 3-year-olds; 11 a.m. for 4- and 5-year-olds, Elkin Public Library, 111 N. Front St., Elkin, hosts its Preschool Story Hour each Friday. The theme is Soups On.

• 4:30 to 8:30 p.m., Bridges Academy will host a spaghetti dinner and holiday crafts fair in the school gym. Adults eat for $7, children 10 and younger $4. Proceeds benefit the Bridges Academy PTO.

• 5 to 8 p.m., Elkin Masonic Lodge will host a ham and egg supper charity fundraiser at the lodge, 114 W. Market St., Elkin. All proceeds support Masonic charities helping children and senior citizens. Supper includes eggs, country ham, grits, biscuit and drinks with to-go orders available. Plates at $8 each.

• 5 to 9 p.m., downtown Elkin will host Light Up Night featuring live performances, buggy rides, Santa, a lantern parade, carolers and other activities for children and adults. The tree lighting ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. The Foothills Arts Council will host its Open Air Art Market as well.

• 6 p.m., the annual Yadkinville Christmas tree lighting ceremony will be held at Yadkinville Community Park. Light refreshments will be provided along with holiday music.

Dec. 5

• 10 a.m., the Yadkinville Christmas Parade will be held. To join the parade, call the Yadkinville Fire Department at 336-679-8691.

• 4 p.m., the Boonville Parade and Christmas tree lighting ceremony will be held with festivities beginning at 4 p.m. and the parade at 5 p.m. Holiday music will be heard throughout Boonville, and there will be food donations of nonperishable foods will be collected for the Yadkin Christian Ministries. Dec. 6

• 2 p.m., the Dobson Lions Club Christmas Parade will be held with parade line-up at 1 p.m. at Surry Community College. There is no registration fee or registration for parade participants. Dec. 12

• 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., a grapevine pruning workshop will be held including the classroom and field sessions to introduce the important concepts and key techniques related to quality assurance, crop yield and disease mitigation. The cost is $20 and will begin in the Shelton-Badgett North Carolina Center for Viticulture & Enology and move to the vineyard for the hands-on portion. • 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Captain Mark Garner Post 7794 Veterans of Foreign Wars will be conducting its annual Fall food drive. VFW members will be accepting non-perishable food items at grocery and discount stores in Elkin, Jonesville, and Boonville. All donations will be used by Tri-C Ministries to help local families this holiday season.

• 2 p.m., “The Nutcracker” will be performed by Rhythm on Main dancers in the Elkin High School Dixon Auditorium, 334 Elk Spur St., with advance tickets at $8 and available for purchase at 116 E. Market St., in the chamber building Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or ROM studio, 246 E. Main St., on Tuesday and Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10.

• 3 p.m., the class of Basic Law Enforcement Training at Surry Community College will hold its graduation in the Grand Hall of the Shelton-Badgett North Carolina Center for Viticulture & Enology, 630 S. Main St., Dobson.

• 7 p.m., the Surry Community College practical nursing graduation will take place at Fellowship Baptist Church, 1421 Little Mountain Church Road, Ararat.

Dec. 18

• 10 a.m. for 2- and 3-year-olds; 11 a.m. for 4- and 5-year-olds, Elkin Public Library, 111 N. Front St., Elkin, hosts its Preschool Story Hour each Friday. The theme is Singing with Santa.

• Members of the Yadkin Valley Rotary Club are now selling tickets for the annual New Year’s Day lunch at the First United Methodist Church, 340 Hawthorne Road, Elkin. The club will serve a traditional meal of country ham, collard greens, black-eyed peas, cornbread, coffee/tea and dessert. Serving hours are from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Quart bags of collard greens may be purchased for $5 per bag. Also, drawings for free door prizes will be held every half hour during serving hours. Must be present to win. Proceeds from the lunch will benefit the club’s scholarship program. Each year a scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior in each of the area high schools: East Wilkes, Starmount and Elkin. Recipients are chosen based on their leadership in the community. • Friendly Consignment Store, a not-for-profit consignment shop beside the Arlington Fire Department in Jonesville, provides new and gently-used items with proceeds donated to several local charities and groups. Hours are Monday and Wednesday noon to 5 p.m., Thursday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

• 10 a.m., line dance class is being held each Monday at the Yadkin Valley Senior Center, 121 Delos Martin Drive, Jonesville, with Shirley Bell as instructor.

• 5 to 8 p.m., clogging classes are being held every Monday at the Yadkin Valley Senior Center, 121 Delos Martin Drive, Jonesville, with beginners from 5 to 6 p.m., intermediate from 6 to 7 p.m. and team practice from 7 to 8 p.m. Cost is $20 per month and it’s open to those 10 and older. • 6 to 8 p.m., each Monday, DivorceCare is a support group that meets at 147 Carter Mill Road, Elkin. It is designed for those hurting from the pain of separation and/or divorce. This group will begin meeting Aug. 17. For more information, call Gwen at 336-244-4682.

• 6 p.m., a monthly Alzheimer’s support group will be held every second Tuesday at Chatham Nursing & Rehab Center, 700 Johnson Ridge Road, Elkin. If area schools are closed due to inclement weather the group will not meet. For more information, call 336-567-7600.

• Noon to 1 p.m., the first Wednesday of each month, a free informational webinar is held for those interested in learning about the Guardian ad Litem program. • 6:30 to 8 p.m., 4G Club – Girls Growing in God’s Grace, is held each Thursday at the Fairfield Inn’s Conference Room in Elkin. It is a meeting for girls 13 to 25 to come together and bond. Regular rap sessions are held about depression, fear, anger, jealously and other topics the girls want to discuss.
