A man is recovering after being in critical condition following a vehicle roll-over Monday on Pratt Road near Siloam Road.

According to Surry County EMS director John Shelton, Andrew S. Riddle, 37, of Messick Road in Jonesville, was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem after the van he was driving rolled over.

Shelton said his department received the call associated with the accident at 8:43 a.m. After responding to the accident, Surry County EMS personnel transported Riddle to Wake medical center by way of an ambulance.

According to Shelton at the time of transport Riddle was in critical condition.

Shelton said Riddle’s vehicle left the road, ran into a culvert and rolled over.

Trooper Terry Bullington, of the N.C. Highway Patrol, said an individual following Riddle witnessed the accident and reported it. According to Bullington, rainy conditions may have played a role in the accident.

Bullington described Riddle as “pretty fortunate,” explaining that he was partially ejected from the vehicle and pinned underneath it. Bullington said that, though the accident appeared to be life-threatening, Riddle was “OK” as of the last update he had received from Wake Forest Baptist Health medical center.

Bullington, who is handling the investigation of the accident, also said he does not suspect alcohol or drug use to be a factor in Monday’s accident. Bullington also said he believes Riddle was not wearing a seat belt.
