ASHEVILLE — The 2015 Asheville Wine and Food Festival Commercial Wine Competition had 73 wines to be judged. The judging was done using two panels of judges for each wine to assure uniformity. Medals were awarded based on a scoring matrix that is a modified version of the UC Davis scoring card. Double Gold medals are awarded based on the results of each judging panel. Those wines that receive either a gold or silver medal are also designated as Best Of The Appalachians (BOTA) by the French Broad Vignerons.

Many of the award winning wines were available for tasting at the 2015 Asheville Wine and Food Festival Aug. 22.

The boutique wineries of Western North Carolina and the Appalachians make high quality diverse wines with locally grown grapes. There is now a clear track record that helps establish the quality of these wines for the general public, restaurants and wine sellers. These results, as well as awards from many other competitions all across the country, further confirm that Western North Carolina is an excellent wine region.

Here is a listing of medal wines that were celebrated at the Asheville Wine and Food Festival 2015.
