Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital named to 2016 100 SafeCare Hospitals Under 100 Beds

Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital has been named to the 2016 list of 100 SafeCare Hospitals under 100 Beds, ranking in the top two percent of small hospitals nationwide (18 out of 744 general acute care hospitals that were assessed).

100 SafeCare Hospitals represent the nation’s top performing hospitals in 40 evidence-based metrics of the Affordable Care Act. The selection was based on superior hospital performance in areas related to quality of care, patient safety and efficiency of care. If all U.S. hospitals attained the 100 SafeCare Hospitals level, more than 400,000 patient deaths and millions of preventable complications would have been prevented.

“Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital is recognized for excelling in the evidence-based metrics of value based care, low readmissions, and low complications of care,” said Dr. Yisrael Safeek, MD, MBA, founder and chairman of The SafeCare Group. He explained that metrics used to select hospitals for the 2016 list included measures of patient satisfaction (HCAHPS), core quality measures, 30-day readmissions to the hospital after discharge, complication rates in medical and surgical care, 30-day mortality, and medical and surgical infections.

“We’re honored to be the only North Carolina hospital under 100 beds on the 2016 100 SafeCare Hospitals list,” said Paul Hammes, chief executive officer at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. “Our goal is to be a place where communication is always clear, everyone cares and patients are always safe,” he said, adding that, “Safety is the number one priority in everything we do, whether it’s how we plan for and deliver care to patients, how we clean our patient rooms and facilities, or how we keep patient data and medical records secure. We’re honored that patients choose Hugh Chatham and trust us with their care, and this recognition is another signal that we are a leader among hospitals our size in keeping patients safe.”
