DOBSON — Surry Community College will be offering a free workshop on small scale pruning for fruit production at 9 a.m. on Nov. 14 at 601 Haystack Road, Mount Airy.
Fruit growers and those interested in fruit production can learn about pruning fruit trees and grapevines. The workshop is intended for commercial and amateur growers. Participants will learn the principles behind pruning apple trees, grapevines and small fruit crops such as raspberries and blackberries. This hands-on workshop will teach pruning as a tool to train trees and vines for proper shape and structure and to assure high yields and high-quality fruit.
This course is part of the Farm to Table Training Series. Surry Community College, in partnership with the Surry County Center of North Carolina Cooperative Extension, is offering a series of courses designed to prepare people to farm for profit. The tuition for this training is free thanks to a grant provided through the Project Skill-UP program and made possible by the NC Tobacco Trust Fund Commission.
