Surry Community offering free workshops to assist unemployed and underemployed

DOBSON — Surry Community College will be offering the following free workshops for unemployed and underemployed workers in May. No advanced registration is required.

Your Personality and Job Preferences will be offered on May 3 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Surry County Workforce Center (Employment Office), 541 W. Pine St., Mount Airy. Students will complete the Myers Briggs Type Personality Profile and identify their personality types to find out which career or job best suits them.

Sell Yourself in a Job Interview will be offered on May 17 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Surry County Workforce Center (Employment Office), 541 W. Pine St., Mount Airy. Participants will learn how to answer tough interview questions and most frequently asked interview questions in order to make a great impression during the interview.

Stress Management, Budgeting on Less and Surviving a Layoff will be offered on May 24 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Surry County Workforce Center (Employment Office), 541 W. Pine St., Mount Airy. Participants will learn effective ways to cope with stress to become more productive and reduce burnout. Students also will be informed on how to budget on less and survive a layoff in four steps.

Networking Your Way to Success, Dress for Success With Career Gear will be offered on May 31 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Surry County Workforce Center (Employment Office), 541 W. Pine St., Mount Airy. Participants will learn important ways of networking with friends, relatives, acquaintances, direct employer contacts, and job information websites to tap into the hidden job market. Participants will also master the skill of dressing for success and improving their total image.
