MOUNT AIRY — The annual Northwestern Regional Library Quiz Bowl was held March 12 at 8:30 a.m. at the Andy Griffith Playhouse in Mount Airy.

Out of the 10 competing teams only one could be the winner. The winning team was South Stokes High School, and the runner up was the defending champs of Surry Central High School. The final score was 155 to 95.

Homer Dearmin was moderator. The judges were Pat Polley, Beth Lyon-Smith and Wayne Matthews.

The South Stokes High School team was sponsored by Renee Himmelspach. The members of the team were Elizabeth Byers, Amy Christie, Heather Dow, Harmony Templon, Alyssa Hagerman, Amanda Myers, Hannah Ross, Nora Skinner, Will Skinner, Hannah King, and Jordan Zeigler. The team is eligible to go to the State Quiz Bowl competition in Davidson County on April 16.

Quiz Bowl was sponsored by the 13 libraries of the Northwestern Regional Library in Alleghany, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin counties as well as the Elkin Friends of the Library and Mount Airy Friends of the Library.
