Library celebrates anniversary

The Northwestern Regional Library is celebrating its first anniversary as a member of the NC Cardinal Library Consortium as a result of a grant from the State Library of North Carolina. NC Cardinal has more than 134 member libraries and is continuing to grow. It is dedicated to sharing resources including books and AV and expanding opportunities throughout the state. NWRL was one of the five library systems that joined NC Cardinal in the 2014-2015 year.

By joining NC Cardinal, NWRL patrons have access to more than four million items as no cost. Items may be requested at any member branch library or remotely from a patron’s own computer. Books and other items are sent at no cost. Since Northwestern Regional Library began resource sharing on April 10, 2015, about 27,367 pounds of materials have traveled across the state to library users in Alleghany, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin counties.

The first anniversary will include activities at all member libraries of the Northwestern Regional Library including a board where the library invites comments about NC Cardinal. For more information, call any Northwestern Regional Library member library log onto www.nwrl.org.
