Collins to serve in National Guard

Elkin High School JROTC announced Cadet Levi Collins, son of Brad and Kim Collins, has made the decision to enlist into the U.S. Army National Guard on Nov. 10, entering as an army private with the goal of soon being promoted to private first class.

Collins is a senior and has attended Elkin City Schools since his sixth-grade year. Through the years, he has participated in several sports, including JV football and varsity wrestling, and he has been recognized as an all-conference wrestler for the past three years.

He is an LET III in the Elkin High School Army JROTC program and participates in both drill and Raider teams. He has consistently demonstrating strong leadership skills.

Collins will depart for basic training on June 13, 2016, at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Until then he is participating in the RSP (Recruit Sustainment Program) to help him know exactly what to expect after his reception to basic combat training. He has chosen the MOS 88M (transport maintenance and operator). His unit is the Transportation Company in Lenoir.
