ELKIN- Mr. Ira Oxendine, age 83, of Elkin, passed away on Saturday evening, Dec. 12, 2009 at the Heritage Care of Elkin.

He was born in Robeson County on Nov. 23, 1926 to the late William French Oxendine and Gainer Graham Oxendine.

He was a retired self-employed painter and farmer.

He was a member of Second Chance Church, were he served as an usher.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Cockerham Oxendine and a daughter, Barbara Jean Oxendine.

Surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law, Anna and Billy Renegar of Boonville, Irene and the Rev. Terry Coe of Dobson and Frances Oxendine of Yadkinville; sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Leslie Oxendine of State Road and David and Michelle Oxendine of Dobson; 10 grandchildren, Melissa Reynolds, Summer Ashley, Kelly Oxendine, Sharia Templeton, Heather Grant, Brittany Guy, Ally Coe, Caleb Hutchens, Charlie Oxendine and Sarah Oxendine; seven great- grandchildren, Kaylin Buffkin, Keyona Reynolds, Riley Templeton, Jaylyn Templeton, Davis Ashley, Blake Ashley and Eden Ashley; one sister, Rosellen Oxendine of Fairmont; and a special friend, Jane Doub of East Bend.

Her funeral service will be held at 6:30 p.m. today, Dec. 14, at Second Chance Church with burial to follow at a later date at Fall Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

The Rev. Terry Coe, the Rev. Butch Holder, and the Rev. Allen Jenkins will officiate the service.

The family will receive friends at Second Chance Church on Monday, Dec. 14, from 5 p.m. until the time of the service.
