The Reeves Theatre fundraiser "Crusin In Elkin" is set for Saturday evening, Oct. 10 from dusk until somewhere between 11 p.m. - 12 a.m. The classic route will begin in front of the Reeves theatre, continue down Main to the stop light at the library, turn left and pass by Harry's Restaurant and bar, continue past Wanda's Riverside Cafe, through the light at North Bridge St., past Combs Butcher Shop, and up to the Yadkin Valley General Store, where it will turn left and continue back down Main Street.

Participants must purchase a decal for $5 and display on the vehicle of choice for cruising. Decals may be purchased at Diana's Bookstore, Royall's Soda Shop, Harry's, and Speedy Chef. Decals will also be available the night of the cruise-in. T-shirts will be available for purchase the night of the cruise-in for a $10 donation to the Reeves Restoration Project.

Cicely McCulloch, co-chair of the Reeves Theatre Restoration Project appeared before the Elkin Town commissioners several months ago to ask for a variance on the no cruising law in Elkin for the event. The commissioners unanimously granted the request.

Some of the local business along Main Street will be open during the event.

well wouldnt u know....if its convient for the town and they want the publics money theyll bring back cruising. if they would let the kids cruise on sunday nights there might not be so much mischif. also i would rather them charge each car $5.00 every sunday night for cruisers and give the money to a charity or the needy....that ways it would give our youth something to do and also it would help with needy causes.....but then again what i think dosent matter!!!!!!!

I agree, my first thought was forget about it since they don't want any one cruising down town any more. This was stopped long ago and we can now see the results of this decision.

But, may be we should give down town another chance. I don't know if the Reeves has a chance of coming back but the downtown area has a lot of potential.

Look at Pilot MT. and what they have accieved b doing the once a month cruises. Take note Elkin. This could be a great thing for downtown.

I agree! The businesses wanted cruising out & they made it happen (even though the majority of them aren't open after 5 pm & aren't open at all on Sunday). I won't be there & I hope they don't have a good turnout. Personally I wouldn't care if everything on Main Street closed, except the PO, Royall's, & Diana's. From what they've reported previously it will take A LOT of money to fix up the theatre & I doubt very seriously that this one event will raise that kind of money. They should've attempted to restore it years ago before it got to be in such bad shape.

why would anybody support this? The constant complaint from downtown business's were the reason cruising got shut down in the first place and now they want to take advantage of it to start another one? Ill pass on that!
