Shaun Robinson waited out the rain and the long night to come away with a win in the Renegades feature race last Saturday at Friendship Speedway in Elkin.
The race reached its 25-minute time limit after 11 laps and Robinson was the clear winner. This was his fifth victory of the season.
Although the win did not come without controversy as opposing drivers protested the win. However, after Robinson’s engine was torn down, everything proved to be completely legal.
“Our car was pretty hooked up, we didn’t spin hardly at all,” said Robinson.
Robinson now has a 44-point lead in the Renegades Division standings over second place Junior Blackburn.
His car is sponsored by West Jefferson businesses Smokey Mountain Barbecue, NAPA Auto Parts, Wendy’s, and Basic Finance; as well as Statesville Truck and Trailer.
Robinson is no stranger to success at Friendship Speedway. He captured the Limited Sportsman title in 2012 and was the Renegades champion last season.
“Three points championships would be nice,” he said. “We’ll see how it turns out.”
