BOONVILLE — Emily Mendenhall scored two goals, including the go-ahead goal midway through the second half as Starmount defeated North Wilkes, 3-1, for their third win in four games.

After the Vikings took an early 1-0 lead, Mendenhall’s first goal made it 1-1. Fifteen minutes into the second half, Mendenhall scored her second goal. With about eight minutes to go, Amber Hurst tacked on an insurance goal for the Rams.

“It was anybody’s game,” Markman said. “We kept the pressure up. We had a lot of opportunities.”urst,

Markman said Jenny Carranza “did an excellent job on the back line” and Candy Morales “did a good job coming in and sending it up.” Also sending it up was Martha Nava, Markman said. Also in the back, Michaela Cockerham “really shut down some of their offensive runs and had some really good long balls.” he said.

He added that Monica Sixtos did a great job keeping it on the offensive end.”

Mendenhall, Hurst, and Claire Maske did their usual job keeping pressure going up front, while Janet Zamora, Selena Foster, and Courtney Byrd played their usual solid games, Markman said, adding Amanda O’Donnell had another exceptional night in goal.
