DOBSON —Salem Fork Christian Church in Dobson has a new pastor, Austin Caviness, who has been meteorologist at WXII 12 for 17 years.
For the past 17 years, WXII 12 Meteorologist Austin Caviness has dedicated his career to serving the community by delivering accurate forecasts and traveling from county to county educating classrooms, participating in community events and getting to know thou-sands of viewers that watch and depend on WXII 12 News, WXII12.COM and WXII12 Mobile for the most up to date weather, news and information.
Caviness began his career at WXII 12 in 1997. He grew up in Burlington, graduated from Appalachian State University and earned a degree in meteorology from the University of North Carolina at Asheville. Over the years, viewers have enjoyed waking up to his unique and sincere personality in order to start their day right. And now, Austin Caviness has decided to leave WXII 12 and take on a new role by becoming the pastor of Salem Fork Christian Church in Dobson.
“The privilege of coming into your home trying to get the weather right is one I will miss greatly, but now I am entering a new phase with faith as my focus,” said Caviness. “That sweet song ‘Amazing Grace’ is not a typo. Falling in love with the Lord is an amazing relationship to cultivate. It has lead to preaching the gospel in many Triad churches the past several years and now the privilege of pastoring with this wonderful Salem Fork Christian Church body.
“I appreciate everyone’s prayers and encouragement as my family and I partner with them in being a faithful, growing Church that demon-strates true community, deep Christian spirituality and love,” said Caviness.
WXII 12 President and General Manger Hank Price said, “All of us at WXII 12 hate to lose Austin, but we fully support his decision to go into the ministry. We thank Austin for his years of service to our viewers and wish him and his family the very best.”
Caviness’ last day at WXII 12 News will be May 30.
