DURHAM — East Wilkes’ softball coach Bradley Hayes has been selected as an assistant coach for the Powerade State Games High School Softball Showcase that will take place June 16-19 at UNC-Charlotte.
It is the third straight year Hayes has been involved with the event. “I look forward to doing it every year,” Hayes said. “As long as they will have me, I would love to do it.
“I’m always tickled to be there.”
Hayes will work with Surry Central’s Glenn Craddock and Richard Layne as they prepare and coach Region 7 through the showcase.
“It’s awesome,” Hayes said. “It’s like coaching an all-star team. It’s the best of our region against the best of the other regions.”
“I have a lot of respect for Bradley,” Craddock said. “He was the first one to come to my mind. We have a good time coaching together.
“I learn a lot coaching with him.”
The High School Softball Showcase pits the best 20 underclassmen players from eight North Carolina regions against each other to battle it out in front of college scouts for the gold, silver and bronze medals. The showcase also features a High School Senior East vs. West series.
Last year Hayes guided the West to a two-game sweep of the best-of-three series with the East in the senior event.
In 2012, Hayes was the head coach of Region 7. That team lost in the final game — the Gold game — to Region 4.
