An Elkin teenager was elated after being cleared of charges connected to a prior incident.
Dante VanEaton, 16, of 265 Oak Grove Road, was charged by the Elkin Police Department on Dec. 20, 2013, with felony possession of stolen property.
According to court records, the charges were dropped by the prosecution witness.
VanEaton said he was acting in good faith by encouraging the suspect to turn himself into police.
“I told him (the suspect) that he had to return the goods. I escorted him to the police department,” said VanEaton. “Then I got arrested for being with stolen items.”
According to police records, Tyler Dale Barker, 17, also was charged by the Elkin Police Department on Dec. 20, 2013, for felony breaking and entering and larceny.
The Barker case remains active.
