JONESVILLE — The Jonesville Business Association met last week to firm up spring plans on the agenda while focusing on an immediate concern to get new members on board.

Association President Anita Darnell said, “We are doing a membership drive going to local businesses and asking for people to sign up.”

On June 14, Flag Day, the group will put on a parade for veterans and others in service professions for the country with several different events. The association has entitled the parade, “Salute to our Veterans and service people of the community.”

The public is invited to get involved by donating items to build floats, in addition to volunteering personal skills such as carpentry or music. Those wanting to participate may call at 336-244-1885.

Darnell said on Flag Day, “We want everyone with a business to fly a flag.”

Flags donated will be used in the parade, said Darnell. She said the Jonesville Business Association will donate flags to businesses who do not have a flag.

She said in addition they are looking forward to hosting the second annual bicycle safety program for kids in the spring, in conjunction with the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office, who will lead the training. Another safety program has been planned for the fall.

Instruction on riding while wearing helmets and hand safety signals will be part of the spring program.

Also in the works, the committee expects to hold a Senior Awareness Day at the Jonesville Senior Building. It will be designed with senior safety issues in mind, and also held in conjunction with the local sheriff’s office.

Darnell said association members will help Issy’s Consignment Shop with a grand opening after a fire closed the original location recently. A date for the opening is still to be determined, said Darnell. Issy’s Consignment Shop is a member of the Jonesville Business Association.

“We are helping her relocate and move and get back on her feet again.”
