Foothills Theatre, an associate member of the Foothills Arts Council, will be opening its 46th season Feb. 7, 8 and 9 with a comedy, “Mama Won’t Fly,” by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten.
With the tagline three performances, 2,096 long miles and 24 crazy characters, the play stars Tommie Ann Tulbert of Elkin as Norleen Sprunt, the feisty mama who will not get on an airplane.
Kitsey Burns of East Bend plays Savannah Sprunt Fairchild Honeycutt, Norleen’s daughter who has to get Norleen from Alabama to California for her son’s wedding.
Bailey Atkins of Mount Airy plays Hayley Quinn, Norleen’s son’s fiancee. Judy Deck of Jonesville plays realtor Tanya Dudley; bra museum curator Essie; cheese intolerant Great-Aunt Pawnee; and not-yet-divorced Sybil.
Mary Keller of Elkin plays party-giver Aunt Rema Jean, bar enthusiast Juliette; and Teeta, the only ordained chorus girl in Vegas.
David Nielsen of Elkin plays happily-married Cousin Chicken; cowboy bar owner Mitch; and not-yet-divorced-nor-married Ronald.
Chris Groner of Elkin plays Town Tire owner Denton Crawford; dance-happy Uncle Ferd; and Irish bar owner Mickey.
Scott Carpenter of Mount Airy plays coffee-drinking trucker Red and Savannah’s long lost love, Spud Farley.
Christie Harrison of Elkin plays newly redeemed Aunt Ardale; protester Edweena; and soon-to-be-betrothed Kiki.
Newell Hauser of Elkin plays New Mexico Highway Patrol Officer Dugger and hotel clerk Kelvin.
Whitney Sprinkle of Elkin plays protester Fanny and the stage hand.
The play is directed by Leighanne Martin Wright and will be performed at 7 p.m. on Feb. 7 and Feb. 8 and at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 9.
Tickets will be $12 and will include dessert, coffee and tea. Performances will be in the First Baptist Church of Elkin fellowship hall. Please see www.foothillsartscouncil.org for details.
