Elkin wasn’t immune to mischief during the days leading to Christmas. The Elkin Police Department reported several cases.
On Dec. 20, Vickie Heiner of 144 Valleybrook Road, Elkin, reported someone had entered her home and had taken property belonging to her and her family, according to Capt. Kim Robison of the Elkin Police Department.
Heiner reported that property valued at $1,435 had been taken.
“During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that a Tyler Dale Barker, 17, Adams Ridge Road, State Road, and a Tristan Dante VanEaton, 16, Elkin, had possession of the property,” said Robison.
Officers with the Elkin Police Department made contact with Barker and VanEaton and the property was recovered. Barker was charged with felony larceny and VanEaton was charged with possession of stolen property, both felonies.
Barker was given a $1,000 unsecured bond and VanEaton was given a $500 unsecured bond. Both were released to their parents and given a Jan. 8 court date.
On Dec. 23, officers were requested to assist Surry County Sheriff’s Office with a reported domestic incident in which the suspect was armed.
“While responding, officers were advised the suspect left the residence and was travelling on Hwy. 21 towards Elkin,” reported Robison.
Officers located the suspect, Michael James Lalonde, 23, of State Road. Officers charged Lalonde with driving while impaired, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Lalonde was given a $5,000 secured bond with a Jan. 13 court date.
On Dec. 24, the Elkin Police Department arrested Christopher Blaine Settle, 21, of Ronda, Katherine Josie Burgess, 28, of Bluefield, W.Va., and a Owen Harry Johnson, 66, of Elkin.
“The three tried to return property that had been stolen from Walmart in exchange for a gift card,” said Robison.
Settle was charged with attempting to obtain property by false pretense, possession of stolen property and second degree trespassing. Burgess was charged with larceny and possession of stolen property. Johnson was charged with attempting to obtain property by false pretense and possession of stolen property.
