Wineries offer ‘passport’ program

November 13, 2013

Yuletide festivities in the Yadkin Valley wine region are once again highlighted by the Deck the Halls holiday passport program.

Folks participating in Deck the Halls receive a wine tasting, hand-crafted ornament and wine-related recipe at 10 participating wineries. Additionally, there’s live music on weekends at various wineries, while each winery takes a turn serving its special recipe.

This eight-week program spans the entire holiday season, beginning Friday, and running through Jan. 12, 2014.

“It’s a fun way for people to celebrate the holiday season — a treasure map guiding them to the Surry Area Wineries,” said Louis Jeroslow, winemaker at Elkin Creek Vineyard. “Come enjoy the season by visiting wineries, seeing beautiful vineyards, and spending time with new friends met along the way.”

This year’s participating wineries are: Brushy Mountain, Carolina Heritage, Elkin Creek, Grassy Creek, McRitchie, Olde Mill, Round Peak, Slightly Askew, Stony Knoll and Surry Oak.

The only requirement to experience Deck the Halls is purchasing a program passport, available at all 10 wineries. Passports may also be bought online at: www.SurryWineries.com.

Passport prices are $60 per person or $95 per couple. In addition to tastings, ornaments, recipes and entertainment, the passports provide discounts at 15 other businesses in Surry County, including accommodations, restaurants and pubs, spas, and retail stores.

“The feedback from past years is that people have really enjoyed the experience. They mention the hospitality and warm welcomes they receive,” Jeroslow said. “One of the wonderful things about the Yadkin Valley appellation is that it’s still very approachable and casual. You don’t have to be an aficionado to come taste the wines and enjoy the vineyards.”
