BOONVILLE — Area football teams hit the gridiron tonight in the regular-season finale across the Yadkin Valley.

In Boonville, Starmount is on the brink of yet another Mountain Valley Conference championship at 5-1 and 7-3 overall.

The Rams are sitting in a three-way tie atop the league standings heading into the finale with North Wilkes (8-2, 5-1) and Ashe County (6-3, 5-1) with each team 1-1 against each other.

Starmount, which lost to the Vikings but knocked off the Huskies this year, can earn a share of the title with a win against Alleghany (6-4, 4-2) tonight on Senior Night.

In West Jefferson, Elkin returns to the field after a humbling 47-6 loss to the Trojans last week on Senior Night.

The Buckin’ Elks, now 6-4 overall and 3-3 in conference action, can end Ashe County’s championship dreams tonight on the road.

The teams played a classic last season in West Jefferson with the Huskies escaping with a 41-34 victory after weathering a furious Elkin comeback.

In Millers Creek, East Wilkes is looking for its second win of the season after finally finding the win column last week against county rival Wilkes Central.

The Cardinals (1-9, 1-5) can better their case for a postseason berth with another win over a slumping West Wilkes side that sits at 2-8 and 0-6 on the year.

In Moravian Falls, North Wilkes can wrap up a share of the conference championship and grab Wilkes County bragging rights with a victory over perennial heavyweight Wilkes Central.

In Mount Airy, Forbush will look to end its remarkable turnaround season on a high note on the road against North Surry.

The Falcons (5-5, 2-2), fresh off a Senior Night triumph over Surry Central last week, are looking to finish the regular season with a winning record for the first time since 2004.

All games kick off at 7:30 p.m.
