SPARTA — Three-peat.

The Elks notched their third-straight Junior Pee Wee Youth Super Bowl Championship Saturday in Sparta, knocking off host Alleghany, 24-6, for the crown.

After forcing a three-and-out on defense on the first possession of the game, the Elks marched 60 yards to take an early lead they would never surrender. Luke Slawter ran it in from 18 yards out and Chance Purvis added the two-point conversion to give Elkin a quick 8-0 advantage.

Purvis capped another long drive with a 42-yard scamper and the ensuing two-point conversion midway through the second quarter to push the lead out to 16-0.

After the Elks came up big on defense to force a turnover on downs near midfield late in the half, Christopher Kimmell broke free on a 24-yard scoring run as Elkin went up 22-0.

The Elks dominated possession in the first half, out-gaining Alleghany 169-31, while building up the 22-point cushion at the break.

The Trojan defense rebounded in the second half and kept Elkin out of the end zone. Alleghany finally broke through in the scoring column, finding paydirt midway through the third quarter, cutting the deficit down to 22-6.

But the Elk defense iced the game with a safety in the final seconds of the game to secure the championship, 24-6.

Elkin racked up 239 yards on the ground, paced by Purvis’ 125 yards from under center. Slawter added 52 rushing yards, while Kimmell and Bailey Grubb tacked on 45 and 17 yards, respectively.

The win capped a dominating three-year run for the Elks, who have won 29 of their last 30 games, while hoisting the trophy each of the past three seasons.

The junior pee wees are coached by Don Pickett, Gary Robbins, Josh Price, and Glenn Golaszewski.

Following the win, the Elkin Pee Wees battled past Ashe Purple 25-12 to win the Super Bowl.

The Elks nearly capped a perfect 3-for-3 afternoon in the Mighty Mite Super Bowl, but West Wilkes spoiled the three-peat with a 22-0 victory over Elkin.
