On Oct. 19, the JROTC Army cadets from Elkin High School traveled to Raven Knob Boy Scout Camp in Surry County. The trip included food, travel and adventure training and was all paid for from the funds raised during the cadets “Chicken Flicken” fundraiser. They arrived at Raven Knob at 8:30 in the morning after stopping at McDonald’s for some sausage biscuits. The first three hours at Raven Knob the cadets participated in rappelling and rock climbing activities at the new BB&T 70-foot-high Boy Scout rappel tower/rock climbing wall. Pizza was delivered around 11:30 for lunch and the cadets enjoyed fellowship, cold sodas and pizza. The afternoon allowed the cadets to enjoy fishing, boating and leadership team building activities. At 2 p.m., the cadets were on the activity bus heading home from a day full of adventure training and fun. All the cadets that rappelled from the tower will receive an adventure training ribbon for their military uniform on Wednesday’s uniform inspection and awards ceremony during their JROTC class.
