RONDA - Starmount stormed out to a 5-0 lead in the first half before blanking East Wilkes, 9-0, in Mountain Valley Conference play Monday night in Ronda.

It took the Rams just 10 minutes to find the back of the net when Salomon Maya scored off the assist of Bryan Jimenez with 30:02 remaining in the first half.

Seven minutes later, Bryan Jimenez found the back of the net off the assist of Hunter Johnson to push the lead out to 2-0. Bryan Jiminez then assisted his brother, Allan, for Starmount’s third goal of the night with 13:07 remaining in the half.

Bryan Jimenez would get into the scoring column again less that a minute later when he scored off the assist of Jose Molina for 4-0 lead. Molina then found Collin Benfield just before the half for the 5-0 halftime lead.

Benfield picked up right were he left off in the first half scoring with 26:24 remaining in the game off the assist of Vicente Adame, picking up his hat trick 10 minutes later.

Erick Teodoro and Zack Sizemore capped off the scoring out-burst - both assisted by Bryan Jimenez - to complete the mercy-rule victory, 9-0.

“We did a good job tonight of establishing ourselves,” head coach Dale Draughn explained. “We kind of lost focus in the second half to start with and after Collin’s third goal of the game. East Wilkes played tough in the second half and we just did a poor job of executing at times and did not play to our level like we were playing in the first half.”

The Rams improved to 3-7-2 overall and 3-3-1 in conference play with the win at the halfway point.

Starmount returns to the field Wednesday night against North Wilkes. The Rams knocked off the Vikings 3-2 in the first game of the series this year.
