Liberal dogma includes the notion that, if legislation is well-intentioned, it should be enacted into law, and never mind the unforeseen consequences. A nice example is Aid to Dependent Children (ADC) which I believe became law after much arm-twisting by Lyndon Johnson. It sounds like a good idea, right? Just send money to those unmarried mothers, and we can feel good about ourselves,right? After all, we mean well, don’t we? But then we begin to understand how that money undermines families among urban minorities; no financial need for father, and if you need more money, you can just have another fatherless baby. But Lyndon meant well, and that’s what seems to count these days.
