MARIETTA, Ga. - Rising Elkin junior Daniel Brinegar continued his stellar off season on the baseball diamond over the weekend at Perfect Games’ World Wood Bat Association 16U National Championship in East Cobb.
Suiting up for the 16U Dirtbags Gold squad, Brinegar and the Dirtbags have reeled off five straight wins at the tournament and are primed for a championship run with two games remaining.
The Buckin’ Elks’ starting catcher is 2-for-4 in the tourney, with a RBI and run scored, while appearing in two of the five games behind the plate.
After battling past First Strike Storm 2-1 in the first game of the tourney Friday afternoon, the Dirtbags have been on a tear, scoring 30 runs over the next four contests to improve to 5-0 on the weekend.
In Game 2, the Dirtbags routed Akadema 12-0 in four frames, collected 13 hits in the game. The gold club then used a four-run fourth inning to breeze past Florida Xtreme Baseball 7-1 for their third-straight win.
The Dirtbags then posted back-to-back shutouts, blanking Game Ready Athletics Orange 3-0 before dropping CageRat Baseball Blue 8-0 Monday afternoon.
Against the CageRats, Brinegar shined with a 2-for-3 afternoon with a run-scoring base-hit.
The Dirtbags, based out of Sedalia, returns to the field Tuesday against Palm Beach Select (4-1) from Jupiter, Fla., before finishing the seven-game, opening round Wednesday against Team Citius Washington (4-1) from Dallas.
