EAST BEND - The anchors on Forbush’s 2A West Region Championship team capped their high school careers with the state’s highest honors.
Captains Jennifer Baity and Sheridan Caudle were named to the Public 2A All-State squad following their standout senior seasons in East Bend, the North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association announced last month.
The duo powered the Lady Falcons to an impressive 25-1 mark, which included a 25-game win streak to open the season that stretched to the West Region Final. The only blemish on the ledger was a 1-0 loss to state runner-up South Iredell in the Final Four on May 21.
Forbush steamrolled through the Mountain Valley Conference, easily capturing the league crown with a perfect 16-0 mark. The Falcons out-scored conference opponents 120-2, with the two goals coming against a solid Wilkes Central side down the home stretch, reeling off 10 mercy-rule victories (9-0 wins).
The squad broke three program records in the process of their banner year.
Forbush racked up 159 goals in 26 games (6.1 goals per game) to establish a new mark, while allowing a paltry six goals all year, setting a record.
Anchored by sure-handed net-minder Jessica Funk, the Falcons won 21 of the 26 games by virtue of a shutout - another record.
Baity and Caudle are the only two conference players to nab all-state honors, joining West Stokes’ Macy Rutledge as the only area stars on the 15-player final team.
